Akata Witch (Akata Witch, #1)

Akata Witch (Akata Witch, #1) - Nnedi Okorafor This is a fun, fast read. I've tagged it "young adult" specifically for my adult friends who enjoy young adult fiction for its plucky hero/ines (present in full force), fearless embrace of the impossible (check), and for the fact that it is a fun and fast read. I enjoyed it because it was both strange and not. How often do I read fantasy fiction that takes place in Nigeria? Not often enough. Because of my research for the voodoo tours in New Orleans, I was somewhat familiar with some of the spirits and practices repurposed for this story, but I was also surprised at nearly every turn. So many of the images were new and unexpected, but made good sense in the world painted here.
